Create point clouds with high-resolution textures
Laserscanner are used in manifold areas for recording buildings, scenes of accidents and sites of crime. The photographic depiction of the surrounding is mostly quite problematic and insufficient, as Laserscanner currently do not offer sifficient image resolutions.

Leica Geosystems announces Leica Cyclone v7.3.2 that fully supports the recently released ASTM E57 standard for 3D Imaging data exchange, which includes 3D laser scanning systems. This capability facilitates direct import and export of laser scan “as-built” data and related digital imagery from different types of laser scanning systems into and between different types of point cloud processing software. This general type of laser scan and image data exchange process using vendor-specific or other neutral formats can sometimes otherwise be problematic.

As of January 1st, 2012, Johannes Riegl Jr. was named the Chief Marketing Officer for RIEGL Laser Measurement Systems GmbH. He will join Dr. Johannes Riegl, Founder and Chief Executive Officer and Dr. Andreas Ullrich, Chief Technical Officer.
Trimble Acquires Plancal in Switzerland to Expand its Global Presence in the MEP Market

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 12, 2012 – Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) announced today that it has acquired privately-held Plancal of Horgen, Switzerland, a leading 3D CAD/CAE and ERP software provider for the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) industries in western Europe. The acquisition of Plancal broadens Trimble's industry leading BIM to Field solutions for MEP and HVAC contractors to automate project estimating and management, modeling, detailing, layout and construction. Financial terms were not disclosed.
