Analysis of flatness deviations with laser scanners

In the scope of a project, a 3D laser scanner was used to check the flatness of a floor. After inserting a new hall floor with floor tiles, surface irregularities between the tiles have been noticed. To detect inclination and offset of the tiles precisely, a 3D laser scanner was applied.

Due to the high point density captured by a laser scanner in a minimum of time, laser scanning technology is the perfect solution for the control of planarity. A FARO laser scanner was used to scan the hall by means of 20 scan positions. The fine registration of the scan data (point clouds) was made by cloud to cloud registration. The scanner provided several millions of scan points that display the hall floor completely and provide the perfect basis for the analysis of flatness.

The laser scanner data simplifies quality assurance and spatial geometric analysis significantly. Based on the scan data, you can immediately identify the highest and lowest points of a floor or deformations, for instance.

Using the laser scanning software Geomagic Control in the scope of the analysis of the unevenness, a complete comparison of target and actual geometry has been performed to define and document the deviations. The customer received the detailed analysis of flatness deviations as a PDF file.
