Stonehenge and laser scanning

The stone sculptures of Stonehenge are remeasured with the aid of laser scanning technology. The last survey by photogrammetry dates back to 1993 and had an accuracy of only 2cm. Precise laser scanners are used to guarantee a new measurement of the stones with a measuring accuracy of 0.5mm.

Thus, the new measurement is the most accurate survey of the monument which has been carried out so far. The English archeologists expect further enlightening information from the precise survey of the stones’ surfaces and of the surroundings.
