Happy New Year 2013

The year 2013 will be a fantastic year for 3D laser scanning and 3D documentation, too.

In the years 2011 and 2012, many interesting developments occurred in this ambitious technology: These developments include the affordable laser scanner hardware as well as the established CAD manufacturers' entering in this technology. These CAD manufacturers are primarily AutoCAD and Bentlex Microstation. This is why laser scanning got out of the technical niche and developed as the procedure for 3D documentation and 3D surveying for the future.

In 2013, the developments will continue. With the laser scanner Trimble TX5, a further global player for measuring breaches the market. The companies Leica and ZF have introduced new interesting instruments with the laser scanner ScanStation P20 and Imager 5010c, too.

In the field of software, Autodesk acquired the company Alcie Labs with its data base solution for 3D point clouds; the 3D printer manufacturer 3D Objects acquired the software Rapidform. At the moment, 3D Objects is purchasing Geomagic. Geomagic is known for the software solutions Geomagic Studio, Qualify and Wrap. Geomagic has recently caused sensation with the introduction of new products. These products include the new Geomagic Spark.

With the new Pointools V8i, Bentley has announced a further new software for January 2013.
