Pay attention, hobby scanners! The first app for creating 3D scans is available for iPhone and iPad. The inventor, John Fehr, is still working on a version for Android.
With the application called Moedls, even scanning in the industrial sector shall be possible – at a cheap rate. The app at a price of $300 will be available in the App Store soon.
For 3D scanning, you need – beside the app – a Smartphone with a camera, a laser beam, a turnable platform as well as a box that big enough for the object to be scanned. A tripod for the Smartphone would be advantageous. Attach your Smartphone to the tripod and position the object on the turnable platform. Point the laser beam at the object and create pictures with your camera while the object is turned.
