Surveying for building services

Hello,

We are an engineering office for planning of technical building services. We want to improve our surveying. Can we capture technical buildings services with a laser and is it difficult?

Surveying for building services

Hello,

a 3D laser scanner is perfectly suited for 3D measurements. Especially objects in hard-to-access areas (e.g. near the ceiling) can be surveyed easily. Apart from the existing technical buolding services, the laser scanner also captures the surroundings (such as the structural situation); it can serve as a basis for planning. Moreover, 3D documentation with a scanner plays an ever greater role.

So far, a digital camera has been used. Now, you take 3D photos with a scanner. The 3D photos provide the advantage that the objects are measured exactly and three-dimensionally. Thus, you can easily take dimensions between all measured points.

Planner for technical building services shouldn't have any problems in handling the latest generation of laser scanners. There are also some clever craftsmen who use laser scanners successfully for their 3D survey. People, who are familiar with a CAD system, can also work with a 3D scanner.

We offer a training for laser scanning. Two days should be sufficient. It can be a training on the job. In teh course of this training, you learn howto handle a 3D scanner and the transfer of teh point clouds into you CAd system. Or we advise you for an optimum solution.

After a training, you can also rent our laser scanner and you get the chance to test this technology in your project. Later, many of our rental customers decide to purchase a scanner when they have gained positive experience and recognized the cost advantage resulting (no expensive souble measurements and planning errors anymore).

We also look forward to the currently available generation of handheld scanners with long range in a practical test. Devices such as FARO Freestyle3D or Mantis scanner are interesting developments. In future, we have to test how these scanners work in relation to 3D scanners on a tripod. According to the price, these devices are a great start into 3D scanning.

If you need more information, don't hesitate to contact our offices in Germany or have a look at our training offer:
