Settings FARO Focus3D X 130 / X 330

Which settings (resolution / quality) should I choose for a FARO Focus3D X 130 and Focus3D X 330 laser scanner? Which settings should I choose for different objects (architecture, plants etc.)?

Settings FARO Focus3D scanner

That depends!
We give advice to start scanning outdoors with 1/4 resolution since you are normally more away from the object to be scanned and the point density is high.
It depends on the distance between the object and the scanner. If the scanner is far away, you can choose a resolution of 1, too.
Indoors, 1/5 resolution should be enough.

It depends on the amount of scan points the point cloud shall contain, that means the point density that suffices for your purpose.

Since stairways are often narrow, 1/8 resolution is enough. But it depends on the results you actually need.

The next factors are the available time, costs and the purpose of using the scanner data.

Since a scan with resolution of 1 and with color may need up to two hours, you should consider which settings you choose.
In the end, you have to decide on your own since the factors of time, cost and benefit have a big influence.
If I get the desired results with low resolution, why should I invest hours for the same result?

There is an interesting article on that topic: http://www.laserscanning-europe.com/en/news/correct-resolution-laser-sca...
