Laserscanning Europe has been active as a technical partner and sponsor in motorsport for a long time.
Primarily in motorbike racing but also in racing cars with the charity project "Nascar-hilft.de" in favour of for the benefit of children with cancer.
In the past few years we have been involved in road racing with our own team, the Laserscanning Europe Road Racing Team. This year our activities are on the one hand in the Festa Tools - Laserscanning Europe Team and as sponsor for Pierre Yves Bian in the K2 Trooper Triumph Team by Peter Hickman Racing. Here Pierre races in the SSP class.
For the 2023 TT, Pierre wanted to race in the SuperTwin class again as well as the SSP class, as he took P4 in 2022. Pierre likes the SuperTwin class because you have to implement a clean driving style.
Unfortunately, a sponsor was lost at short notice and so the use of the Paton at the TT was questionable.
Pierre Yves asked us if we could support him at short notice to make his dream of finishing on the podium of both Isle of Man TTs possible. Without a powerful bike this is not achievable, the competition with the mainly English riders is tough as nails.
So the VAS engine - Laserscanning Europe Team was formed at short notice with the mission to reach the podium.
In the first twin race over 3 laps on the 60km long mountain course, Pierre finished in an excellent 6th place.
After the second SuperSport race had to be abandoned due to technical problems with the brakes, the second SuperTwin race was still to come.
Pierre wanted to take a relaxed approach to the Carole Nas SuperTwin and simply enjoy riding across the island, but the race turned out differently.
For a long time Pierre was fighting in 5th/6th position at the beginning of the race, but then retirements came into the race and Josh Brookes had a bad pit stop, so Pierre was flushed to the front and was first in 3rd and then later in 2nd place in the race.
The frustrated Brooks was desperate for a top podium finish, having failed to achieve any notable finishes at the 2023 TT so far, and was really pushing hard. For Pierre the topic of a relaxed race was over and now the fight for a top podium position began with Brooks and the following riders.
However, Pierre was able to keep his lead and brought the 2nd place with about 3 seconds after 3 laps and about 183 km race distance to the finish. The Paton withstood the race.
Finally, the unbelievable had come true and the 2nd place after Peter Hickman on the TT was clinched. A mega success for Pierre Yves Bian and the VAS engine - Laserscanning Europe Racing Team.
Pierre Yves Bian is the first racing driver from mainland Europe since 1986 (Helmut Daehne) and the first motorbike racer from France ever to stand on the podium of the TT. He has thus written motorsport history.
