Title
FARO Blink in practical testing – speed meets precision

Wysiwyg text

At Laserscanning Europe, we put the new FARO Blink through its paces at our site in Wuppertal. Our goal was to test the practical performance of the device in terms of speed, handling, user-friendliness and accuracy directly in use.

The following video about our practical test with the FARO Blink is only available in german language.

Test environment

First column

The practical test took place in office and administrative rooms as well as on the adjacent outdoor premises. This included corridors, various interior rooms, exterior facades, car parks and surrounding road sections. A total of 620m² of indoor space and around 14,000m² of outdoor space were covered. We carried out approximately 320 scans, spread over two days of scanning and a further day for data processing in the FARO Scene software.

Practical experience

The FARO Blink impressed in the test above all with its intuitive usability, which is particularly advantageous for scanning beginners. Even users without in-depth prior knowledge can perform scans quickly and easily. The high speed at which interior rooms and corridors were captured was also impressive. However, challenges arose with highly reflective or metallic surfaces.

Conclusion

Wysiwyg text

The FARO Blink clearly scores highly in projects that require fast results and uncomplicated handling. This makes it ideal for basic building surveys, floor plan creation and first steps in the field of Building Information Modelling (BIM). However, for projects with demanding requirements, especially when it comes to precise surveys of complex or highly reflective surfaces, we still recommend the use of purely terrestrial laser scanners such as the FARO Focus series.

In summary, the FARO Blink is a useful addition to existing laser scanning systems and offers an excellent entry point, especially for beginners and users focused on efficiency.
