Leica ScanStation C5

Leica ScanStation C5 is a 3D laser scanner from the company Leica Geosystems and operates using the time-of-flight measurement method. The successor of ScanStation 2 has been designed especially for the needs of laser scanning beginners and provides increased performance. Thus, the measurement speed of 25.000 points/second can be increased to 50.000 points/second. The increased range ensures an additional flexibility during scanning: The range can be extended from 35m (1378 in) (at 5% albedo) to 300m (11811 in) (at 90% albedo). Such as ScanStation 2, ScanStation C5 has a full field of view (maximal 360° in the horizontal plane, maximal 270° in the vertical plane). Leica ScanStation C5 combines a video camera, a laser plummet (laser class 2) as well as a data storage device in a unit. Furthermore, a dual-axis compensator as well as a digital camera for colored scans and single image acquisition can be added. Measurements can be operated via the integrated touch screen, a laptop, a tablet PC or an appropriate remote control.

The characteristic feature of Leica ScanStation C5 is Smart X-Mirror™: The mirror reflecting the laser beam rotates vertically on a horizontally rotating platform. Due to Smart X-Mirror™, the scanning time for 360° scans and area scans is reduced enormously. The duration of the two internal lithium ion batteries amounts to at least 3.5 hours. The duration of the external batteries amounts to at least 6 hours.
