Autodesk VRED 2027: Gaussian Splats in Visualization Workflows
With Autodesk VRED 2027, Autodesk introduces an important new feature: Gaussian Splats can now be imported as PLY files and used as interactive scenes.
The integration of Gaussian Splatting allows scanned environments to be directly combined with 3D models. One of the key highlights is the interaction between both elements. Models can cast shadows into the splat scene and reflect the environment on their surfaces.
Since only a few rendering engines currently support this level of interaction, this update marks a significant step toward more realistic real-time visualization. It opens up new opportunities in industries such as automotive, digital twins, and VFX.
It will be interesting to see how Autodesk continues to develop this technology and whether it will be integrated into other solutions in the future.
