as I'm reading more and more about the laser scanning technology, cloud registration methods, hardware and software in general I kinda get stuck with the variety of laser scanning equipment!!!
can someone maybe make a list or tell me briefly if there are significant differences between reference spheres, reference targets, globe targets, hds targets (or spheres), precision plastic balls, lidar balls, registration spheres. Is there all talking about the same thing or are there difference to consider while using them?

Hello,
you have to know that the names differ from each manufacturer but aime at the same. You can use products from FARO,Leica or even free ones. Their are Manufacturer specific ones like the Z+F Auto Targets.
The Main differences lay in the form of data collection between spheres and checkerboard targets. In my opinion the spheres work better with geometrical surveys. The targets need to be sticked und doesn't look that good ;-)
