By means of the measuring instruments by FARO, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes revolutionizes the workflow and lifts the borders between inspection and production. The application of the FARO measuring arms allows shorter reaction times for fabrication and more reliability of the F1 racing cars.

Speed plays an important role in the workflows of McLaren Racing. Changes of the design and revisions take place around the clock. Quasi, the vehicles are changed weekly. Laser scanning technology offers an important advantage in this case: it provides highly precise and informative data and, thus, a perfect basis for planning and decision-making for the engineers.

Due to the measuring arms und the software by FARO, the workflows are advanced. Now, the engineers not have to measure some key data anymore for visualizing a component part or a construction. By using the non-contact measurement method of the portable FARO measuring arms, surfaces are recorded completely and precisely and 3D data is digitally imaged. Thus, the images are available for modeling, too. By the portable measuring arm, inspection can even be performed on site.

The FARO measuring arm makes it possible to measure even attached components or the frame. Thus, engineers may intervene directly and work on the vehicle without additional effort (disassembly and setting into the test device).

Employees may easily test the frames in big manufacturing machines without moving them. Postprocessing can be carried out before the frames are removed from the machines.

Moreover, the FARO measuring arm presents a standalone measuring system. If a default occurs in a manufacturing machine with measuring head, this default recurs. With the FARO measuring system however, reference points are determined on the machines and defaults can be detected by remeasurement.

The FARO measuring arm is suited for the inspection of completed components as well as for surveying during handling. Even complex shapes and whole components can be recorded because of the measuring arm’s flexibility.
