Steinbichler Optotechnik Continues on Growth Track

Steinbichler Optotechnik GmbH, world leading provider of optical measurement and sensor technology, reports excellent business results which are partly due to the new COMET L3D fringe projection system. This innovative system was introduced only recently at the CONTROL trade show this May. We are delighted that our entry-level solution to high-precision 3D digitizing has been such a tremendous success! So far, 100 COMET LƎDs have been sold or ordered in only two months since the launch. This shows that the market is ripe for high-quality test systems that are both cost-efficient and easy to use. We will continue to cater to the relevant target groups and present further innovations at the Euromold, announces Dr. Marcus Steinbichler, Managing Director of Steinbichler Optotechnik GmbH.

The COMET LƎD picks up where conventional tactile testing leaves off for example, fragile plastic parts or components with complex, compound surfaces. Here the combination of extra light-weight sensor head, high accuracy and extremely fast point acquisition opens up new possibilities. Application areas for the ultra portable, easy-to-use COMET LƎD include quality assurance in test laboratories and production-related areas, 3D digitizing for the reverse engineering of surfaces in the plastics and metalworking industries, and the field of art and cultural assets.

Optical measurement systems today have become established in many areas and industries. Where requirements call for a non-contact, high-speed and high-precision measurement of component surfaces with very many measurement points, optical measurement systems provide significant advantages. Non-contact is particularly useful for fragile, thin-walled parts or foamed parts. High speed, with data acquisition in one or two seconds, is especially profitable if many characteristics can be measured in one shot. High precision 5 µ or better plays a key role in quality assurance, an area in which the system offers clear advantages over arm/scanner systems. Many measurement points allow full analysis of the component, as opposed to conventional in particular, tactile CMMs where you never really know what exactly happens between the individual measurement points. Users with some basic knowledge of metrology and/or quality assurance will find the Steinbichler systems surprisingly easy to use about as simple as taking pictures.

We are still on a strong growth track and heading for the most successful year in our company history. Compared to the first half of 2010, our incoming orders increased by 62% in the first six months of this year. For COMET 5 sensors, orders are up by sensational 48% compared to last year's, says Dr. Marcus Steinbichler and is upbeat about the company's future: With our new products we will continue on the growth course in 2012.
