Tom Greaves, 3D Imaging Thought-Leader, Joins ClearEdge3D Board

Brings a Wealth of Experience and Market Knowledge to the Fast-Growing Company
Houston, TX — April 16, 2012 — ClearEdge3D announced today that Tom Greaves, former CEO of SPAR Point Group and one of the preeminent thought-leaders in the 3D imaging industry, has joined its Board of Directors.  The move comes shortly after the release of its new software, EdgeWise Plant 3.0, to wide critical acclaim in the CAD industry.

ClearEdge3D has developed a series of groundbreaking automated feature extraction (AFE) algorithms which form the core of its EdgeWise 3D modeling suite.  The technology automates the extraction of complex CAD pipe and planar geometry from 3D laser scanned data, dramatically reducing time to create accurate as-built 3D models by up to 70%.  “I’ve been following the development of ClearEdge3D since 2009 -- their technology promises to smash the data processing logjam for feature extraction,” says Greaves.  “The company has a very bright future and I’m quite excited at the prospect of helping them expand.”

Greaves will join ClearEdge3D’s five-member Board, which consists of founder and CTO, Kevin Williams, President and CEO Chris Scotton and two outside investors. The company recently won a prestigious research grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to further develop its automated feature extraction technology.

Greaves has been a fixture in the laser scanning/3D modeling industry with more than 20 years’ experience in engineering, product development, and business analysis. He has authored numerous reports on best practices for deploying 3D laser scanning and 3D plant design, and has advised the world’s leading software developers and hardware suppliers on marketing, pricing, partnering, promotion and distribution strategies in North America, Europe and Japan.  “Tom’s industry experience and strategic perspective are unmatched in the marketplace.  We are absolutely delighted to work with him as we develop ClearEdge3D’s AFE technology, 3D modeling software capabilities and customer base,” said Chris Scotton, the company’s President and CEO.

Greaves received a B.Sc. in physics from Queen's University at Kingston, an M.Sc. in physics from the University of British Columbia, and a Master's from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
